May has really turned the tide on our cool wet weather. We are ending the month with lots of sun and temperatures reaching 90. It has been a busy month with yard work and our convention preparations but we have gotten a few other activities snuck in as well.
The frog hunters..... still harassing frogs and tadpoles. Something about slogging around in the spring ponds that has a tremendous attraction for little boys.
Something about slogging around in the bigger ponds makes the bigger boys happy to.
We got a quick fishing trip in one afternoon and hit a few nice lake trout.
We've also got the bikes out and enjoyed some of our local trails.
I think they had more fun throwing rocks in the lake than ridding bike but it was a good distraction when they started wondering how much farther we were going.
The kids painted up some bird houses that Don made for them the other week and I decided to humor them and put them up.... well it wasn't long and we had tenants. Both front and back yard houses have gotten used now.
We did get in a nice Sunday afternoon picnic at city beach this past weekend. It was very enjoyable and relaxing. The kids said the water is still very cold....I took their word for it.
We got attacked by the local pirates..... he even rolled out his treasurer chest and let the kids dig in. Morgan and Major are checking it out.... and I think Jocelyn might even be trying to get her hands on something as well.....just for the kids Jocelyn!
Dad! Dad! Guess what I got......
For memorial day we decided to head to some smaller lakes south of us. The water warms faster in these lakes and the pan fishing can be quite good. The swimming was too as the temperatures hit 90 we all ended up cooling off in the water.
Sometimes a push is needed....
And sometimes your hook gets caught in the lily pads.... good thing for eager brothers to go get it unhooked.
Remind me again why we kept all these fish...... We had a real grab bag. There was perch, bass, crappie, and all colors of sun fish. The kids love this fishing, they get to use their own poles and use bobbers.
Maybe all that rain and snow was good after all since it seems like we spend the summer in the water
