The Deck Project

This year's big house project was repainting and updating the porch and deck railings.  The railings were never up to code and the gap was wide enough for small children to fall through.  So it finally moved from the to do list to the completed list!  Yay!

Getting started in April.  All the railing came down and were replaced.  Morgan decided that kicking the boards down was very satisfying.

 The scraps from the new railings kept the kids entertained.

Getting the deck and railings painted in between rainstorms.  The project stretched out a bit just waiting for windows of opportunity long enough to allow paint to dry.

Sure glad my hubby is willing to tackle big projects!

Before the balusters went in, they needed ends screwed on both ends.  A little training with a power tool and Ry put me to work. (The picture was taken by Lane who was keeping me company.)

We looked at getting wood balusters and Ryan found a place online that we could get the whole bunch for $300, much cheaper than Home Depot.  I asked about shipping.  He gulped when he saw the $535 shipping charge.  No longer cheaper than Home Depot!  So we started checking out other options and discovered these aluminum ones.  A bit cheaper then home depot and free shipping!  We really like the finished look.

The kids have enjoyed a new play area now that there's no worry of one of them falling through.  It sure feels good to have it behind us now that summer is starting to heat up!
